• single claim receipts increase by 165%

  • multiple claim receipts increase by 344%

The Ministry of Justice has published their quarterly (April to June 2018) tribunals and gender recognition certificate statistics. The statistics show a dramatic increase in the number of Employment Tribunal claims since fees for bringing a claim were abolished on 26 July 2017.

From April to June 2018, single claim receipts increased by 165%, disposals by 56% and outstanding caseload by 130%, when compared to the same period last year.

However, multiple claim receipts increased by a whopping 344% this quarter, disposals fell by 13%, leading to a 34% rise in caseload outstanding. The drastic increase of multiple claims was most likely caused by a large multiple airline claim as over 23,000 claims out of a total of 42,700 were received in relation to one employer.
